George W. Bush was born 79 years ago today, on July 6, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut. He spent most of his childhood in Midland and Houston, Texas, and later attended Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale University in 1968 and went on to receive an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1975.

Before becoming president, Bush worked in the Texas energy industry and co-owned the Texas Rangers baseball team. He entered politics in the 1990s and was elected Governor of Texas in 1994, serving two terms. His leadership style emphasized education reform, tax cuts, and a strong national defense.

During his presidency from 2001 to 2009, Bush led the country through significant events including the September 11 terrorist attacks. His administration established the Department of Homeland Security and launched military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
