Manifest Destiny was the 19th-century belief that the United States was destined to expand its territory across the North American continent. It was driven by the conviction that such expansion was both justified and inevitable, rooted in the principles of democracy, liberty, and progress. President James K. Polk brought the theory of Manifest Destiny to life through bold leadership and decisive action. During his presidency, he oversaw the annexation of Texas, negotiated the Oregon boundary with Great Britain, and led the nation through the Mexican-American War. Under Polk, the United States grew by more than a million square miles, forever changing the map and identity of America.
