Secretary of State
Marco Rubio was born on May 28, 1971, in Miami, Florida, to Cuban immigrant parents who settled in the United States before the Castro regime solidified power. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in 1993 and a law degree from the University of Miami in 1996 before entering public life. Prior to his confirmation as Secretary of State, Rubio served multiple terms as U.S. Senator from Florida, and was known for his work on foreign policy, immigration, and conservative causes.

- The United States maintains a State Department to conduct diplomacy, represent American interests abroad, negotiate treaties, and manage relations with other nations; the State Department was formalized in 1789 under President George Washington to replace the earlier Department of Foreign Affairs.
- The Secretary of State is the principal foreign policy advisor to the President, directs U.S. diplomacy, oversees consulates and embassies, and is responsible for protecting American citizens abroad.
- Under Secretary Rubio’s leadership, the State Department and related efforts are positioned to advance U.S. interests in trade, security, and ally coordination—actions that can bolster national strength and indirectly benefit American jobs, stability, and global standing.
