Secretary of Transportation
Sean Duffy, the current Secretary of Transportation, was born 54 years ago today, on October 3, 1971, in Hayward, Wisconsin. He earned his undergraduate degree from St. Mary’s University and his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law. Before entering public service, Duffy worked as a prosecutor and gained national recognition as a television commentator before being elected to Congress. He served as U.S. Representative for Wisconsin’s 7th District for a decade, where he focused on economic development and regional transportation policy, including his leadership role as co-chair of the bipartisan Great Lakes Task Force.
- The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) was established in 1966 to ensure safe, efficient, and accessible transportation systems across the country as part of the Executive Branch.
- The Secretary of Transportation is tasked with overseeing federal highways, air travel, railroads, maritime commerce, and public transit—ensuring mobility, infrastructure integrity, and national safety standards.
- Under Secretary Duffy’s leadership, the DOT has accelerated rural infrastructure upgrades, supported American-made transportation technologies, and expanded funding for resilient, community-focused transportation solutions that impact millions daily.
