Treasury Secretary
Scott Bessent was born on August 21, 1962 in Conway, South Carolina and graduated from Yale University in 1984. He spent decades in the global investment management business—serving as a partner and London office lead at Soros Fund Management and later founding his own macro investment firm, Key Square Group.
In January 2025 he was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the 79th U.S. Secretary of the Treasury under President Donald J. Trump, bringing his financial-expertise transition into public service.

- The U.S. Treasury Department was established to serve as the executive-branch agency responsible for managing government revenue, printing currency, and overseeing federal finances; it was formalised in 1789 with the first Secretary of the Treasury appointed by President George Washington.
- The Treasury Secretary’s primary responsibilities include managing the federal government's finances, advising on economic policy, overseeing tax and revenue systems, supervising financial institutions and markets, and protecting the nation’s economic security.
- Under Secretary Bessent’s leadership, the Treasury has advanced tax-cut extensions, emphasized boosting economic growth and job creation, and strengthened efforts to safeguard the financial system — efforts which aim to help all Americans build prosperity and financial stability.
